Neil Diamond retirement: Friends offer well wishes

NEIL DIAMOND:  Legend celebrates his 77th birthday as friends offer well wishes

Neil Diamond is receiving an outpouring of well wishes and support from fans and friends after the legendary performer announced he is retiring from touring because of Parkinson's disease.

Diamond was recently diagnosed with the neurological disorder and was forced to cancel the third leg of his 50th Anniversary Tour because traveling has become difficult for him.

Fellow singer and longtime friend Barry Manilow tweeted last night, "Neil Diamond, so sorry to hear about the great Neil Diamond’s illness. I’m rooting for you Neil! Fight on from another Brooklyn boy!"

Josh Groban added, "Endless admiration and love to you @NeilDiamond."

Richard Marx tweeted, "So much respect for Neil Diamond. Feel honored to have seen him live. Wishing him strength and good wishes."

Melissa Manchester tells us, "It's no easy thing to back away from performing, but Neil has shown courage and dignity in facing his life with Parkinson's. In his statement, he acknowledged his appreciation and love for his fans and his hopes for future projects. I'm rooting for him."

Neil will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award during the Grammy Awards on Sunday.
