Birthday wishes this week to Cher. Born Cherilyn Sarkesian on May 20, 1946. Cher turns 67 this week. Cher was a studio singer in the 60s, when she met Sonny Bono. After they were married, Sonny & Cher scored a series of big hits in the 60s, including I Got You Babe, The Beat Goes On and many more.
They turned that into a successful TV career when CBS launched The Sonny & Cher Show in the early 70s. The couple divorced in 1974 and Cher went on to become a very successful act. Her solo hits included Half Breed, Gypsies Tramps & Thieves...and later in the 80s, she made a comeback with I Found Someone, We All Sleep Alone and many others. She remains the only act to have a #1 hit in five consecutive decades--the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000's Believe.
Cher also became an Academy Award winning actress with her role in 1987's Moonstruck. She's also been in many other movies.
