Michael McDonald defends Kaepernick and peaceful protesters

Michael McDonald defends Colin Kaepernick and the other NFL players who've taken a knee in protest of police violence against people of color. On Facebook, the voice of "What a Fool Believes" praises Nike for its use of Kaepernick in what's likely the most controversial commercial currently on TV.

In a post that begins, "It’s truly amazing to me how many people feel so compelled to wrap their bigotry in the Flag," the former Doobie Brothercounters such criticism, praising "a truly peaceful, incredibly powerful and poignant form of protest."

Not known for being outspoken on topical issues, McDonald says the protests at NFL games, "[Don't] do harm to, or threaten in any way anyone else’s property or person." He compares Kaepernick's example -- which led to his exile the last two seasons -- to "the greater American conscience by Rosa Parks and Doctor Martin Luther King."
