'Rocketman' movie banned in Samoa

The Elton John film Rocketman has been banned in Samoa due to its depictions of homosexuality.

The head of Samoa's censor board tells the Samoa Observer that the homosexual activity depicted on screen violates the country's laws. In Samoa sodomy is an offense that is punishable by up to seven years in prison, even if both parties consent. The censor does add, “It’s a good story, in that it’s about an individual trying to move on in life."

The is the second country where the film has been subject to some form of censorship. A Russian distributor censored scenes from Rocketman that featured gay sex and drug use.
