- Born Cherilyn Sarkisian, she first found fame singing with her boyfriend (and later husband) Sonny Bono.
- "I Got You Babe" was the first of 11 hits for Sonny and Cher.
- Before the duo became headliners, she sang background on several Phil Spector recording sessions, including The Ronettes' "Be My Baby."
- The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour did so well as a CBS summer series in 1971, the network brought it back full-time that December.
- One of the biggest female recording stars of the '70s, she hit number-one with "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves," "Half Breed" and "Dark Lady"
- Cher separated from Sonny in 1974; each had separate TV shows before briefly reuniting two years later.
- Her electro-pop single "Believe" hit number-one in 1999 -- making her the oldest female artist ever with a number-one record.
- She won an Oscar for her role in Moonstruck.
- Cher played Ruby Sheridan (Sophie's grandmother) in 2018's Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again.
