Cher is backing the Armenian cause during war engulfing its region.The superstar has released a taped public service announcement while ethnic Armenian and Azerbaijani forces battle in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Cher, whose father was of Armenian ancestry, does support sanctions against Turkey and Azerbaijan "given the history of Armenians and Turkey and the genocide, the records of human rights violations, it is time to cut and impose sanctions on these countries."
She adds, "Raising awareness isn't enough. Contact your representatives now and demand action... Tell them... Ethnic cleansing... Must stop now." (The Hollywood Reporter)
