Tony Orlando celebrates 60 years in the spotlight

Tony Orlando has big plans to celebrate six decades since the release of his first single.The legendary entertainer has re-recorded many of his big hits for a new Time Life ‘Timeless Big Hits’ collection.

Tony is best known for his years with Dawn on their CBS-TV variety series and with memorable 70’s hits like “Tie a Yellow Ribbon” and “Knock Three Times. His rise to prominence actually began in the early 60’s with songs from the legendary Brill Building like “Halfway to Paradise” and others hits with actually got him a booking on American Bandstand with Dick Clark.

While best known for fronting Dawn on TV and such '70s classics as "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" and "Knock Three Times," the New Yorker's career began 10 years earlier with the Brill Building-era smashes "Halfway to Paradise" and "Bless You," which landed him on American Bandstand on Memorial Day in 1961.

Tony said, "Six decades is an accomplishment, Tony. Why don't you do from the first hit through, in chronological order, so 'Halfway to Paradise,' is the first hit record, all the way to the last Top 10 record, which was 'Cupid.' And then they asked me to do a new song, I wrote song with Michael Omartian, called 'America is My Hometown.' Michael is a multi-Grammy-nominated and award winner. So, here we are."
