The Rolling Stones likely had a good idea Charlie Watts wouldn't be back

When the late Charlie Watts announced earlier this month that he was bowing out of The Rolling Stones’ ‘No Filter’ tour this fall for medical reasons, he and his bandmates may have known the severity of the drummer’s illness.

Once drummer Kenney Jones heard about Watt’s death, he immediately reached out to his Faces bandmate and Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood.

In an interview with The Mirror, Kenney said in an interview with ‘The Mirror,” "Ron told me, ‘No matter how prepared you are for this sort of thing you are never half prepared when it happens.’

“I said, ‘No, it always hits you like a ton of bricks’.”

Kenney had called Charlie for his 80th birthday in June, and he said he "didn’t sound very great...”

He added, "I kind of half expected it as a month before he died I had been recording with Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Faces, which is now two years late. I spent a lot of time with Ronnie so I knew about Charlie and how he was doing. I knew it wasn’t good... so I wasn’t surprised."
