Paul McCartney opens up more about John Lennon leaving The Beatles

Paul McCartney recently reflected on the day John Lennon officially left The Beatles. In an excerpt from his new book ‘The Lyrics,’ McCartney said it was “like a divorce.”

Lennon announced his departure to Paul, Ringo Starr and George Harrison during a meeting in late 1969. According to McCartney, Lennon made the announcement “quite gleefully,” saying, “I’ve been wanting to tell you this” and then he announced his intention to leave the group.

Paul went on to say he was hurt by Lennon’s decision to leave, and Ringo and Harrison weren’t “down to keep the band going” after Lennon’s departure.

McCartney also said that he’s always kept mum about the split publicly. Lennon was vocal about his decision and made what Paul said were “hurtful” comments.
