Bob Dylan has written a new book.
The Philosophy of Modern Song, his first book since his 2004 memoir, Chronicles: Volume One, will be published on November 8th.
Dylan started working on the book in 2010, and it contains over 60 essays that he wrote about songs by artists including Stephen Foster, Elvis Costello, Hank Williams and Nina Simone.
A press release from publisher Simon & Schuster says, “[Dylan] analyzes what he calls the trap of easy rhymes, breaks down how the addition of a single syllable can diminish a song, and even explains how bluegrass relates to heavy metal.”
Jonathan Karp, President and CEO of Simon & Schuster, says, “The publication of Bob Dylan’s kaleidoscopically brilliant work will be an international celebration of songs by one of the greatest artists of our time. The Philosophy of Modern Song could only have been written by Bob Dylan. His voice is unique, and his work conveys his deep appreciation and understanding of songs, the people who bring those songs to life, and what songs mean to all of us.”
Dylan is on tour with a show in Lubbock, Texas tonight (Tuesday), followed by Irving, Texas on Thursday, Sugar Land, Texas on Friday, and San Antonio on Sunday and Monday.
