Micky Dolenz files lawsuit

Micky Dolenz has sued the FBI to gain access to the full file gathered on The Monkees in the 1960s.

Rolling Stone has reported that the suit was filed after Dolenz wasn't able to access it through a Freedom of Information Act request. The suit says it's "designed to obtain any records the FBI created and/or possesses on The Monkees as well as its individual members. Mr. Dolenz has exhausted all necessary required administrative remedies with respect to his [Freedom of Information Act/Privacy Act] request."

A heavily redacted version of the file was released back in 2011 and it describes the "subliminal messages" on a screen during one of their shows that "in the opinion of [informant’s name redacted], constituted ‘left wing intervention of a political nature.'”

Dolenz's lawyer, Mark S. Zaid, told Rolling Stone, “The redacted information may be peripheral to them. Some of them likely reflect an informant’s identity, which was probably the person attending the concerts. Theoretically, anything could be in those files though. We have no idea what records even exist. It could be almost nothing. But we’ll see soon enough.”
