Jim Morrison ignited a TV firestorm 55 years ago

The Doors appeared on ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’ on CBS 55 years ago and created one of the biggest TV footnotes in rock ‘n roll history when Jim Morrison ignored a request to change the line in their signature song. The Doors were told that Jim Morrison couldn't sing the line, "Girl, we couldn't get much higher" in "Light My Fire." The legendary frontman ignored the request and created a firestorm.

Doors guitarist Robbie Krieger talked about Morrison ignoring the order the alter the lyrics on “Light My Fire.”

Krieger said, "Jim says, 'You're kidding. We can't say that? You know, what's the deal with that?' And the guy says, 'No, well the legal team has told us you can't say that,' you know. So he said, 'Okay, okay, fine,' you know. And when we get out there either Jim just forgot about it, spaced out, he was so excited, or maybe he did it on purpose - I never really asked him, but he sang the words and that was the last time we played The Ed Sullivan Show."
