Bruce Springsteen is 73 years old, but the legendary rocker has no plans to retire anytime soon. The Boss sat down for an interview with Howard Stern and talked about his career and his final moments with the late Clarence Clemons.
On the subject of retiring, The Boss said, “I can’t imagine it, you know. I mean if I got to a point where I was incapacitated or something. I mean, look at Johnny Cash, Pete Seeger. I played with Pete Seeger in Washington at Obama’s inauguration. Pete was 91 or 92 and he came out and sang ‘This Land Is Your Land.’ So, you know, I don’t know if I’ll be doing three-hour shows, you know, but I have so many different kinds of music that I can play and do. The Broadway show I can do the rest of my life in one form or another, if I wanted to. I can’t imagine retirement. No.”
Bruce also talked about his final moments with his longtime friend and E-Street bandmate Clarence Clemmons, who died on June, 2011. Springsteen said that he played guitar for Clemmons at the hospital. Bruce said, “I had a feeling he could hear me because he could squeeze your hand. I took the hunch and brought the guitar and strummed ‘Land of Hope and Dreams.'”
