Kool & The Gang inspired Snoop Dogg

Kool & The Gang’s classic “Get Down On It” debuted in the top 40 this week in March of 1982. The song was sampled by Snoop Dog on his hit “We Just Wanna Party With You” 15 years later in 1997.

“Get Down On It” was Kool & The Gang’s fourth top 10 single of the 80’s. J.T. Taylor sang lead vocals on the hit that was featured on their album ‘Something Special.’ Kool & The Gang started out being called The Jazziacs in New Jersey. 

The song would go on to peak at #10 later in the spring of 1982. Kool & The Gang have continued touring well into the 21st century.Robert “Kool” Bell recalled their 2012 tour with Van Halen, saying, "When we played 'Ladies Night,' 'Get Down on It' into 'Celebration,' that audience was hard rock, they got up and they started partying. So David Lee Roth, he know what he was doing. And them ladies got up, they looked around and said, 'You'd better get your butt up and 'Get Down on It'!"
