Cream began their breakup 55 years ago today

One of rock music’s first super-groups Cream went south 55 years ago today, July 10th, 1968, when Eric Clapton announced that they would disband after a farewell tour.

The decision was made in May that disband later that as tensions flared between Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. Their final shows at the Royal Albert Hall, November 25th and 26th, 1968, were also filmed for a BBC documentary and later released as the Farewell ConcertYes opened up both of those shows.

The trio didn't reunite until 1993, when they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Clapton once talked about being a part of Cream. He said, "Cream was a deep emotional experience where people that were giants, and very, very complex. Those two other guys in the band with me were pretty frightening and very powerful and very intense."
