Robert Plant surprised his fans by performing one of his most iconic songs, "Stairway to Heaven", for a good cause.
Plant sang the song last Saturday at The Cancer Platform benefit concert in Oxfordshire, England, which was organized by former Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor. The concert raised money for cancer research and treatment.
The reason why Plant agreed to sing the song was that someone donated six figures for him to do so. Plant has previously stated that he is not interested in reuniting with Led Zeppelin, but he is willing to play their songs for the right amount of change.
The song was accompanied by guitarist Kenwyn House, who was part of the band that backed Plant. House told Led Zeppelin News that playing "Stairway to Heaven" with Plant was the most pressured professional situation he had ever faced. He said that he was in a small room with his hero playing the most famous of his songs.
The performance was a rare treat for the fans, as it was the first time Plant had sung the song since Led Zeppelin's 2007 reunion show in London.
The concert also featured other artists such as Nile Rodgers, KT Tunstall, and Tom Jones.
