Michael McDonald teams up with Paul Reiser for new memoir

Michael McDonald is the latest singer-songwriter to do a memoir. But unlike others, he brought in a famous co-writer: actor-comedian Paul Reiser.

McDonald and Reiser collaborated on ‘What a Fool Believes: A Memoir,’ which will be published next May 21st. Reiser has some experience with memoirs. He wrote three New York Times bestsellers – Couplehood, Babyhood and Familyhood.

The publisher says that the book is not only a chronicle of McDonald’s remarkable career, which spans five decades, including hits like “What a Fool Believes,” “I Keep Forgettin’,” and “Yah Mo B There.” The memoir is also a deeply personal story of McDonald’s struggles and triumphs.

“Michael reckons with the unshakeable insecurities that drove him, the drug and alcohol addictions that plagued him, and the highs and lows of popularity,” the publisher says. “He also shares his insights into the music industry, his collaborations with other artists, and his enduring love for his wife and family.”

McDonald and Reiser are already gearing up for a press blitz next spring by taping a TV special together at Analog in Nashville on December 13th. The special will feature the duo talking about the book, performing some of McDonald’s songs, and cracking jokes.
