The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its list of nominees for the Class of 2024. Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, and Kool & the Gang are among the first-time nominees who have expressed gratitude for being considered for the honor.
Mariah Carey tweeted: "Beyond excited and thrilled to be among these legendary nominees for this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. Congratulations to all!" Carey has dominated the charts for three decades with her powerful vocals, catchy melodies, and genre-blending style. She has 19 number-one hits, five Grammy Awards, and countless other accolades to her name.
Lenny Kravitz posted on Instagram: “Woke up to this! Grateful to be nominated for this prestigious honor.” Kravitz has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide, won four consecutive Grammy Awards for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance, and collaborated with legends like Madonna, Mick Jagger, and Prince.
Robert Kool Bell, the founder and leader of Kool & the Gang, shared a lengthy statement on their official website, saying: "We are honored to be nominated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2024.
"We started out as the Jazziacs, seven Jazz enthusiasts still in grammar school. We could have never imagined our passion for music would take us around the world and into the songbook of American popular music.
"Of our original magnificent seven, my brother Ronald Khalis Bell, Dennis “Dee Tee” Thomas, George “Funky” Brown, Claydes “Charles" Smith, Robert “Spike” Mickens, and Richerd “Ricky” Westfield, I am the surviving member and of course, James “JT” Taylor who joined us for the amazing ride of the '80s. Thank you to our fans and everyone who has loved and supported us. Don’t ever stop celebrating this amazing ride called life!”
To be eligible for nomination, an artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years before the nomination year. Mariah Carey has been eligible since 2015, Lenny Kravitz since 2014, and Kool & the Gang since 1994.
The Class of 2024 will be announced in April with the ceremony in the fall in Cleveland. The date has not yet been announced.
