Police fans have been treated to the deluxe reissue of the group’s fifth and final album, 1983's "Synchronicity". The reissue contains 55 previously unreleased tracks. The Police have released the demo version of their iconic song, “Every Breath You Take” on YouTube.
The demo was recorded at London’s Utopia Studios, approximately two months before the final version has since become a staple on radio stations worldwide. The song spent eight weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. It's not just a commercial success; it's also a critical darling, winning two Grammy Awards -- Song of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. The hit also holds the title of the most played song in the history of radio.
Despite its success, “Every Breath You Take” has been a point of contention within the band. In 1983, it earned Sting the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors. However, Police guitarist Andy Summers expressed his dissatisfaction last October, saying he should be credited as the song's co-writer.
