Phil Collins gets his own documentary

Phil Collins is stepping back into the spotlight with a new documentary titled ‘Phil Collins: Drummer First,’ set to premiere on Drumeo.com on December 18th. This film offers an intimate look at Collins' life and career, focusing on his identity as a drummer. Collins emphasized, “I’m not a singer who plays the drums. I’m more of a drummer who sings a bit.” This statement sets the tone for the documentary, highlighting his deep connection to drumming.

The trailer for the documentary has already generated buzz, showing Collins behind his drum kit—a sight fans haven't seen in years due to a 2007 injury that affects his grip. Despite this setback, Collins remains hopeful, saying, “If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks then I will have a crack at it. I just feel like I’ve used up my air miles.” His resilience and passion for drumming really shine through.

The film also features appearances from a star-studded lineup of musicians, including his son Nic, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, bassist Leland Sklar, jazz drummer Billy Cobham, Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron, Genesis touring guitarist Daryl Stuermer, former Who touring drummer Simon Phillips, Styx drummer Todd Sucherman, and former Billy Joel drummer Liberty DeVitto, among others.
