Remembering Sam Moore

Sam Moore, one half of the legendary Grammy-winning R&B duo Sam & Dave, passed away at the age of 89. Known for their iconic hits like "Soul Man," "Hold On I'm Coming," and "I Thank You," Sam & Dave left an big mark on the music world. Moore reportedly passed away following complications from surgery. His journey began in the vibrant neighborhoods of Overtown and Liberty City in Miami, where he first discovered his love for music in church.

Moore's fateful meeting with his musical partner, Dave Prater, happened at Miami's King O' Hearts Club. Dave was trying out for the club's talent show, and the chemistry between the two was undeniable. Together, they created a string of hits that resonated with audiences worldwide. Their contributions to music were recognized in 1992 when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Beyond his work with Sam & Dave, Moore also enjoyed a successful solo career and became a beloved figure at the Kennedy Center, performing for six U.S. presidents from Jimmy Carter to Donald Trump.

In addition to his musical achievements, Moore received a Special Merit Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammy’s, cementing his legacy as a true icon of R&B.
