Alice Cooper celebrates a big anniversary

This week marks the 50th anniversary of Alice Cooper's debut solo album, ‘Welcome to My Nightmare.’ Released on March 11th, 1975, the album was a significant milestone for Alice Cooper, as it was his first project after the breakup of Alice Cooper the band in 1974. Reflecting on the album, Alice Cooper said, "It was a total gamble. I mean we had no idea if this was gonna work or not. [1973's album] Billion Dollar Babies was so big and I wanted something bigger." His ambition paid off, as the album became a defining moment in his career.

Welcome to My Nightmare is a theatrical concept album that takes listeners on a journey through the nightmares of a child named Steven. The album features several notable tracks, including the title track, "Only Women Bleed," "Department of Youth," and "Devil's Food," which includes a memorable monologue by the late actor Vincent Price. The album's unique blend of rock and theatrical elements set it apart and showcased Alice Cooper's creativity and willingness to take risks.

The album's success was evident as it peaked at number five on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum for over a million sales in the U.S.
