So far this summer in Central Texas has been milder and wetter than normal. On average, Waco has its first 100-degree day in early July. We've not reached the century mark yet this summer with all the heavy rain and cloudy weather. It's a great summer to get outside and get some exercise. Being active can help you stay healthy and it's NOT expensive! Here's a list of parks, playgrounds, splash pads and hiking trails that are FREE to use in Waco:
- Brazos Park East: Enjoy a fun day along the banks of the picturesque Brazos River
 - Cameron Park: Established in Waco back in 1910, Cameron Park is one the largest in-city parks in the U.S. Enjoy the view, walk or bike the awesome trails--many of which are nationally ranked.
 - Cotton Belt Trail: This 2.5-mile trail is located on top of an old rail bed and crosses over the South Bosque River with great views! Trail access points are located off Harris Creek Road, Old Lorena Road and Hannah Hill Road. I highly recommend this trail. It's flat and easy to walk!
 - Neighborhood and community parks include Indian Spring Park (with Waco's historic Suspension Bridge), Sul Ross Park, Bledsoe-Miller Park, MLK Jr. Park and Viking Hills Park (one of my favorites!)

Enjoy Waco's Riverwalk with approximately 7 miles of multi-use, lighted trails that loop along both banks of the Brazos River. This is a must-see in the Waco area! It includes splash pads near the entrance to Cameron Park. This area makes for a really fun family day! Get more by clicking here. Get out and enjoy the "cool" summer in Waco and Central Texas. We have world-class amenities right here in our own backyard. Getting out and moving even 30-minutes has tremendous health and mental benefits. Enjoy Waco outdoors!
