Tico Torres rocked as Bon Jovi’s drummer through the band’s rise to stardom in the 80’s and he’s responding to persistent rumors that he’s retiring.Tico says no way!
Tico was surprised to hear fans speculating that he had stepped away from music. The confusion apparently started after David Bryan, the band’s keyboardist, mentioned on the Bon Jovi Talk podcast that he and Jon Bon Jovi were the only original members left from the band’s 1978 beginnings. That comment led some fans to assume Torres, who actually joined the band in 1983, had quietly retired.
To clear up the confusion, Tico took to social media on Monday with a video message. “I’m here to dispel a lot of rumors,” he said. “People calling me up, saying, ‘Did you retire from music, from the band?’ Well, no. I have no idea how this stuff starts.” He went on to reassure fans that he’s still very much active, saying, “Musicians don’t retire, especially me. Me and the boys, Jonnie and everybody, we’re still making music. I mean, the best we’ve ever been. All I can tell you is don’t listen to what you read.”
Ironically, while Torres insists he hasn’t retired, Bon Jovi as a band has been mostly inactive on the performance front. They’ve only played one show since 2022, following Jon Bon Jovi’s vocal surgery.
