Big 95 Music News: Beatles, John Lennon

BEATLES:  Christmas treat is out today

The Beatles join in the Christmas festivities today (Friday) with the release of The Christmas Records.

This deluxe vinyl box set contains all the Christmas messages they sent on flexi-discs to members of their fan club between 1963 and 1969. The seven audio messages are pressed on variously colored 7-inch singles, with the original sleeve artwork. Also included is a 16-page booklet with recording notes and reproductions of the fan club newsletters.

Also out today is the deluxe 50th anniversary edition of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in high definition digital audio. This collection contains the 2017 stereo mix, 18 additional tracks, including complete alternate takes of the album’s 13 songs. The album will also be available in two single vinyl LP editions: a 180-gram black vinyl LP and a picture disc LP.

JOHN LENNON:  Postage stamp on the way

John Lennon will appear on a U.S. postage stamp next year.  Lennon, who lived in New York for his final decade, is one of 21 subjects to be honored. Joining him are children's show host Fred Rogers, astronaut Sally Ride and entertainer and civil rights activist Lena Horne.

John joins such music icons as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley and  Buddy Holly on a U.S. stamp.
