Father of Girl Attacked By Sea Lion Reaches Out

Father of the young girl who was attacked by a sea lion in British Columbia, Canada this past weekend at Stevenson Harbor, is finally speaking out for the first time. He is defending his family saying that they did not provoke or torment the sea lion. Her grandfather jumped immediately into the water and pulled his grand daughter to safety. The family is very thankful for his quick reaction.

Vancouver Aquarium has stated that the little girl is however not OK. She is being treated for a rare and hazardous infection know as "seal finger." It is what happens when bacteria from the sea lion's mouth gets into the wound. Vancouver Aquarium spokesperson Deana Lancaster told People Magazine that the family got in touch with them to discuss the treatment of "seal finger", which can be resistant to some antibiotics. If not treated properly, it can lead to massive swelling that can cause the infected to loose fingers and hands.
