PRINCE: New shade of purple on the way to honor the late superstar
We'll now be able to admire a new shade of purple -- which was introduced on Monday to pay tribute to Prince.
The late star's estate and Pantone announced that the new royal color will roll out this year in the form of paints and dyes for a variety of products. The shade’s official name is “Love Symbol Number-Two” -- the actual term for the symbol that Prince used as his name when he was “The Artist Formerly Known as Prince.”
The shade was designed to mimic Prince's favorite hue of purple. It joins 1867 other colors in Pantone's most recent color guide, which is available for design professionals to create their looks. (Guardian)
RINGO STARR: 55 years ago today
Ringo Starr received the phone call of a lifetime 55 years ago today.
On August 16th, 1962, Beatles manager Brian Epstein called asking if he would leave his band, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, to replace Pete Best.
Ringo Starr recalls the August 1962 phone call from Brian Epstein inviting him to join The Beatles:
"He called me up on a Tuesday and said, 'Would you join the Beatles?' I said, 'Yeah.' He said, 'Can you get home tonight?' And I said, 'I can't leave the other group just like that, you know. Must give a bit of notice.' So I said, 'I'll be there Saturday.'"
Ringo couldn't make it for the August 16th show at the Riverpark Ballroom in Chester, England, so the Fab Three had Johnny Hutchinson of The Big Three fill in that night, and at shows in Birkenhead and New Brighton.
