RICK SPRINGFIELD: Being honored for his battle against depression
Rick Springfield says he "never thought I’d get an award for being depressed."
The '80s hit-maker and onetime General Hospital co-star tells Soap Opera Digest, "If I had told myself that when I was 16, I might have not tried to hang myself."
Springfield was recently honored by the L.A.-base Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services for his work in removing the stigma of depression.
He first opened up about his personal demons in his autobiography, Late, Late at Night. "I didn’t talk about it in my book for any altruistic reason... It was just a part of my life, and people happened to pick up on it. But in any case, I’m happy to show that you can still have a life and still deal with depression. That’s the main thing. As for being an advocate or anything like that, I’m still new at all this."
Rick Springfield headlines an '80s package show with Starship featuring Mickey Thomas and BerlinSaturday night at the Sunset Amphitheater in Las Vegas.
