Blondie will release EP showing development of 'Heart of Glass'

BLONDIE:  'Heart of Glass' revealed

Blondie will celebrate the development process for their signature song "Heart of Glass" in an upcoming six-song EP due October 26th.

Guitarist Chris Stein said in a statement, "It was years before we recorded it properly... We’d tried it as a ballad, as reggae, but it never quite worked. At that point, it had no title. We just called it ‘The Disco Song.'”

The special release -- which will also be available digitally and as a 12-inch vinyl LP -- includes an instrumental take, an extended version, a mix by DJ Shep Pettibone, a 1975 recording when it was still called 'The Disco Song' and a 1978 attempt titled "Once I Had a Love."

When the song was commercially released in 1979, it launched the band commercially in the U.S., reaching number-one and selling enough copies to be certified gold.

The EP is the first release from a new deal for the band's classic catalog with the Numero Group. The label will put out a box set called Blondie: The Complete Studio Recordings 1975-1982 in fall 2019.

A promo video for the upcoming disc is on YouTube.
