The Monkees’ 1968 psychedelic feature “Head” will be getting a special screening next month in honor of its 50th anniversary. The American Cinematheque screening will take place November 1st at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, and will feature a Q&A with band members Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz.
The film was shot after the band’s TV series was canceled and premiered November 6th, 1968 in New York City. In addition to The Monkees, it featured guest appearances by Frank Zappa, Annette Funicello, Victor Mature, prizefighter Sonny Liston and more.
While the film was considered a commercial “flop,” it later garnered a cult following.
