Nile Rodgers calls Chic the 'Grateful Dead of Dance Music'

Nile Rodgers proudly calls his band Chic "The Grateful Dead of dance music."

Promoting an upcoming show, he tells the Tampa Bay Times, "We just go out and play. There’s no Pro Tools, there’s no background singing, there’s no dancers, there’s no nothing. We’re just a band playing songs."

Famous songs, too. Besides Chic's own "Le Freak" and "Good Times," Rodgers' shows include songs he's written and produced for others ranging from Sister Sledge's "We Are Family" to Daft Punk's "Get Lucky."

There are also classic tunes Rodgers influenced without receiving credit, such as Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust." Nile recalls John Deaconhanging out in the studio when Chic recorded the tracks for "Good Times," and riffed on their riff for his.

Chic are opening many shows this year for Cher. But they're the headliners on January 18th in Saint Petersburg, Florida.
