Counting Crows’ hit debut album “August & Everything After” was named after an outtake from the album’s recording session, and now 25 years later the band is finally releasing it.
Fans have always wondered what happened to the song, which apparently was never finished, but frontman Adam Duritz finally decided to complete it after Amazon music approached him about teaming up with the London Studio Orchestra for a song.
As for why the tune never made it on the record, Duritz tells “Rolling Stone," “It was just me on the piano, which was probably a bad arrangement for it,” adding, “There were holes in the lyrics and that really weighed it down. The whole thing was just lumbering. We had to toss it.”
He notes, “I loved the title more than I liked the song, quite honestly. But we did include some of my handwritten lyrics to it on the cover since I didn’t want to include anything that we were actually using.” Check out a clip of the song to the right.
