The Romantics began as a band on Valentine's Day
On last week's On the Blue Cruise, frontman Wally Palmar recalled the first show under that name on February 14th, 1977, The band that would go on to cut "What I Like About You" and "Talking in Your Sleep" made their debut at the My Fair Lady Club in their hometown of Detroit.
Wally Palmar says The Romantics first performed under that name on February 14th, 1977 in their native Detroit:
"When we gathered together, we decided that it would make for good press -- Romantics, Valentine's Day, you know? It did work. And then, first album cover in red, leather, mind you... Yes, it is the anniversary of that. So we've been together for that many years and we still do shows and we'll be coming to a city or club or outdoor venue near to you, sometime soon, I guess."
The Romantics will appear along with The Bangles, Martha Davis of The Motels, Greg Kihn and Richard Page from Mister Mister at the Like Totally Music Festival on May 11th at Huntington State Beach in Southern California.
