Petula Clark: 60's music legend lands London theater role

The "Downtown" icon, whose U.S. theatrical credits include Blood Brothers and Sunset Boulevard, has just signed to play the Bird Woman in the upcoming London theatrical production of Mary Poppins. The show is scheduled to open on November 13th -- two days before her next birthday.

Before the curtain goes up in London, Clark has a seven-date tour of Australia that begins April 27th, as well as shows in Montreal and Toronto in mid-June. (Broadway.com)

Petula Clark says she loves performing all over the world:

"Traveling, of course, air travel has become more complicated, 'cause of all the security you have to go through, all of that stuff. And I hate luggage -- but I have to have luggage. I've got all my stage clothes, all those... that is a drag. But the actual travel, the going from one place to another, I actually adore. Being in different towns, and hearing different accents and different audience. I guess I'm a bit of a gypsy and I really do enjoy it."
