Rick Springfield is the latest artist to remake his old songs with an orchestra.
The as-yet-untitled project is due out this year, and Springfield tells the Edmonton Journal that he didn't drastically rework the songs when recording it. He says, "I hate it when people redo songs, and the voice and guitars are nothing like the original. I heard The Kinks completely redo 'You Really Got Me,' and I was like 'Really, guys?' You can’t touch those classics. For the orchestral hits I matched everything as closely as I could, but it sounds better because of modern recording."
Springfield will also team up with the guy who wrote "I've Done Everything for You," Sammy Hagar, for a benefit this spring. Hagar's sixth annual Acoustic-4-a-Cure to benefit the pediatric cancer care program at UCSF Benoff Children’s Hospital in San Francisco is set for May 15th at the Fillmore. Other acts taking part include Tom Johnston of The Doobie Brothers and Nancy Wilson of Heart.
