An 11-second clip of a long-lost British TV appearance by The Beatles has been discovered -- more than 50 years after it took place.
The silent footage of the Fab Four miming to "Paperback Writer" on Top of the Pops was shot on a eight-millimeter movie camera off a TV. It will be screened later this month in London.
So will a missing 1969 episode of Top of the Pops, featuring an early cut of The Beatles' video for the single "Something." They are part of a collection being screened at the British Film Institute by the organization Kaleidoscope.
The Mexican collector who found the footage contacted the Birmingham-based group that specializes in tracking down famous missing TV footage. Spokesman Chris Perry tells the BBC, "I think if you're a Beatles fan, it's the holy grail. People thought it was gone forever because videotape wasn't kept in 1966. To find it all these years later was stunning."
Back in 2000, the BBC apologized for not keeping copies of some legendary programs for historical purposes.
