Billy Vera has new music to share this month -- and is enjoying a new kitchen in his Southern California home.
The "At This Moment" hitmaker has recorded a collection of songs he wrote between the 1960s and '90s. None became top-of-the-chart hits, but all deserved a chance to be heard.
Billy Vera talked about his latest album:"As the album title says, it's Timeless. I found a bunch of songs that I'd had laying around for many years, never recorded [them] and I was listening to them one day and I said, 'Boy, these are good songs.' They deserved to be documented."
The oldest of them, "Don't Look Back," was written back in the 1960s when Vera was a staff songwriter for a New York music publisher. Intended for soul star Chuck Jackson, who passed on the song, it was recorded by the Boston band The Remains, whose version became a cult favorite in New England.
This month, Billy is a guest -- or more accurately, participant -- on the reality series Home Made Simple, which is hosted by Laila Ali.
Billy Vera talked about appearing on an OWN TV network home makeover series:
"This week, on Oprah's OWN network, they're running my -- they brought me into do a little reality show with Muhammad Ali's daughter Laila, who is a former boxer herself. It's called Home Made Simple -- they redo a room in your house for free. They have you and a member of your family, in this case, my son, help, and I got a new kitchen, man."
