A new musical about John Lennon's teenage years is in the works.
The production is based on the 2009 film Nowhere Boy, which didn't use any Beatles songs and focused on Lennon's relationship with his mother Julia and his aunt Mimi growing up in Liverpool. Producers Brian and Dayna Lee told Deadline that they envision a “play with music” with songs that inspired Lennon. They hope to have the production debut in England "in the next few years." Yoko Ono is aware of the project but has no involvement.
In 2012, singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini took a crack at adapting the book written by Lennon's half-sister Julia Baird that was the basis of the movie. But that never made it to the stage.
