Derrick Baskin's success in bringing Otis Williams to life on stage as both a member of The Temptations and narrator of the story in the Broadway musical Ain't Too Proud landed him a Tony nomination.
He recently talked about the man he portrays:
"Since Otis Williams is the last living of the classic Temptations, he gets to tell the story of these iconic men who came into his life and subsequently left his life."
Derrick Baskin's portrayal of Otis Williams includes breaking the so-called Fourth Wall: "It's just an honor to tell this story and to tell it in this fashion. Every night, I get to look into the audience, see the audience and go on the journey with the audience. A lot of times, we call it the Fourth Wall. What's happening on stage, the audience is just watching. But in our show, the Fourth Wall is broken and I am speaking to you directly."
