Don McLean has lost the chance to be honored by UCLA.
On Monday, the "American Pie" singer-songwriter was named the winner of the 2019 George and Ira Gershwin Award for Lifetime Musical Achievement by the UCLA Student Alumni Association.
But, just hours later, the award was rescinded after the organization was reminded of McLean's 2016 arrest and guilty plea for domestic violence.
A UCLA spokesman tells Maine's Portland Press Herald, "SAA rejects any behavior — including violence and the threat of violence in all its forms — that does not uphold the True Bruin Values. We extend our support to survivors of domestic violence."
