One of Stephen Bishop's famous friends gave him the title of his latest album -- decades ago.
A fixture on the L.A. music scene since the mid-'70s, Bishop briefly dated Carrie Fisher. And a phrase she used during a phone call stuck with Steven: "We'll talk about it later in the car."
Stephen Bishop says, "I knew her for a brief period and we wound up going to the Saturday Night Live show. And she was talking on the phone, there and she happened to say, 'We'll talk about it later in the car.' And I was like, 'Oh she must mean something about me.' And I asked her and she said, 'Well, it's, you know, mostly, what my mother used to say.' Debbie Reynolds, when they got into an argument or something. 'Look, look, we'll talk about it later, in the car'."
An eclectic mix of pop, folk and even country, Bishop's album is out a week from Friday.
Stephen Bishop offers and overview: "This new album, it's got a little bit of this and a little bit of that. It's got so many different so many different styles in it. I just really like doing that, incorporating that in my albums -- very much like the Beatles used to do. They always had like different songs and different vibes and stuff."
A talented wordsmith, Bishop says he's used the expression We'll Talk About It Later in the Car for years. He muses, "It's a great ending of a sentence."
