Brian Wilson has scholarship named in his honor

UCLA has a new music scholarship named for Brian Wilson.

Initially funded by a $100,000 gift from writer-filmmaker (and UCLA alumnus) David Leaf, the grant will be presented every other year to a junior in the Herb Alpert School of Music whose career goals include composing, arranging and producing popular music.

Wilson says, "I’m honored by David Leaf’s generosity in creating this scholarship in my name... I hope that the UCLA students who it supports will help lead the next wave of great musicians."

Leaf has collaborated with Wilson on several projects, including the 2004 documentary Beautiful Dreamer: Brian Wilson and the Story of Smile.
