Vanessa Williams is delighted to sing on the upcoming tribute album Thank You, Mister Rogers.
Having grown up watching the show -- and then shared it with her own children -- Vanessa deeply respects Fred Rogers's legacy.
Vanessa talked about her song from Thank You, Mister Rogers :
"I sang 'Many Ways to Say I Love You,' which he wrote it. Trying to get through the song, it reminded me of how beautiful and how sentimental the words were, but how beautiful the notion is that love is pervasive and there's many ways to show it and say it."
The former Miss America says we need more people who spread the message of love, kindness and understanding as Rogers did.
Vanessa discussed why the Thank You, Mister Rogers project appealed to her.
"I grew up with Mister Rogers, so he's part of my childhood, which is very nostalgic. But also, watching his life in that documentary, I was so moved, I had to watch it again. Getting to celebrate and showing his life to people that didn't know him will make a change, because it's all about love and that's what we need in this world right now."
The all-star compilation Thank You Mister Rogers -- also featuring Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Junior, Jon Secada, Micky Dolenz and Kellie Pickler -- drops October 25th.
