Adrienne Warren won raves from theater critics for her starring turn as Tina Turner in the new Broadway show. But they weren't sold on Tina - The Tina Turner Musical.
- The New York Times: "In a performance that is part possession, part workout and part wig, Adrienne Warren rocks the rafters and dissolves your doubts about anyone daring to step into the diva’s high heels." But the review calls the show "so thin, it’s see-through" and complained about the use of Tina's '80s hit "Better Be Good to Me" in a scene set in 1962.
- The New York Post: "If you want to relive Tina Turner’s prime, you can’t get much better than Adrienne Warren." Compared to John Lloyd Young as Frankie Valli and Jessie Mueller as Carole King, the Post adds, "Warren’s galvanizing turn is, in every sense, in the same league as those Tony-winners. The 79-year-old Turner has led a hard life, and Warren lets you know it." However, the paper calls it a "by-the-numbers bio-musical."
- New York's Daily News: "Adrienne Warren, who nails each impossible note up in that fifth octave and way down in the gravel, every swivel and swagger, and each last defiant, self-actualizing rasp, is simply the best... It’s a towering and generally phenomenal performance and probably enough to overcome the show’s myriad muddy areas."
