Did a new HBO documentary about the legendary Apollo Theater deliberately overlook The Jacksons?
That's what Taj Jackson, Tito Jackson's oldest son, believes. He tweeteds that The Apollo "erase[d] black music history" by barely mentioning them. "The group you helped launch on your stage. Black artists and celebs need to take note. This can happen to you too in the future. Not just my family, I’m so disappointed."
It is true that The Jackson Five won the Apollo's famed Amateur Night competition in 1967. And it's also correct that one of Michael Jackson’s final performances -- at a 2002 Democratic Party fund-raiser for Bill Clinton -- took place there.
Jackson family suspicions stem from another documentary: Leaving Neverland, which documents Michael's sexual abuse of children. That film aired on HBO earlier this year and led to a $100 million lawsuit against the network. (New York Post)
