George Thorogood has decided to honor his late wife Marla. The veteran rocker has established the Marla Thorogood Memorial Fund for Ovarian Cancer Research.
Marla died in 2019. George says, “I am dedicated to supporting ovarian cancer awareness, education and research that will lead to providing screenings and educating more women about this disease. It is important for women to get annual exams and take charge of their health. My daughter Rio and I want to do what we can to save lives.”
To launch things, George is selling a limited-edition T-shirt sporting the Destroyers logo in the color teal. Teal, by the way, is the official color of Ovarian Cancer Awareness month coming up in September. Those who purchase the shirt will also receive a code allowing access to exclusive content from the rock ‘n roll legend.
Beginning next month, fans who purchased the shirt will also be asked to post photos wearing it on Facebook and Instagram using official tags.
One winner will be randomly selected to receive a private virtual visit from George, along with a cool acoustic performance and Q&A session.
Details and rules are online at GeorgeThorogood.com.
Proceeds from the Marla Thorogood Memorial Fund will be administered by the T.J. Martell Foundation’s ovarian cancer research program along with the laboratory of Dr. Ronald Alvarez at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville.
