When Elton John toured Australia in late 2019 and early 2020, he planned to put music to new lyrics from his longtime songwriting partner, Bernie Taupin. But, it didn't quite work out that way.
"I’m not in the mood right now to do an Elton record," says Elton. "I don’t feel like writing Elton songs. What I’ve done this year is I’ve done Lady Gaga. I’ve done a track with Surfaces. I’ve written a song with Charlie Puth that hasn’t come out yet. I’ve done an Ozzy Osbourne thing and a Gorillaz track. I just did a Teyana Taylor video, which I loved.
"I’ve been keeping busy doing other things with other people. And I do my [Apple] radio show every week. But I’m not in the mood..."
Elton's last album featuring new material was 2016's Wonderful Crazy Nights.
His next release is Jewel Box – which is an 8-disc collection of 148 obscure album cuts, B-sides and other rarities – due out on November 13th.
