Neil Young has joined several other big artists selling at least part of their publishing. But you shouldn’t expect Neil’s songs to pop up in commercials anytime soon.
Hipgnosis Songs, a London investment firm, just bought 50-percent of Young's catalog of 1180 songs.Neil does have the final say on where his music can be placed however.
Company founder Merck Mercuriadis told CNBC that Young has never licensed any of his songs for commercials -- and doesn't expect him to change that policy. "There will never be a ‘Burger Of Gold’ but we will work together to make sure everyone gets to hear them on Neil’s terms."
The big deal is worth an estimated $150 million.
