The Who's legendary third album, The Who Sell Out, was released back in 1967.After years of delays, the 50th anniversary edition is finally being released today.
The iconic album will be available in several different forms today, including a ‘Super Deluxe” release including 112 songs (46 that were never released), an 80-page book with rare photos, Who memorabilia, posters, and notes—including new notes in the sleeve by Pete Townshend.
Townshend recalled how the group came up with the concept for the album:
"This came out from a couple of place. One was the fact that we'd done a Coca-Cola commercial -- and I suppose because we were sort of Carnaby Street swinging London cool or something -- so it was in our minds at the time. But I'd also done two songs for the American Cancer Society, which felt to me like commercials in a sense. So it was in the air at the time. And then Kit Lambert, who was our record producer at the time, as well as our manager, decided to turn it into a pirate radio show and that's how it transpired."
