Biography: KISStory, the two-part documentary chronicling the history of KISS, will make its premiere on A&E this Sunday night at 8pm.Part two follows on Monday evening at 8.
Gene Simmons recently talked about the documentary:
"KISStory is more sort of a no holds barred story about four knuckleheads off the streets of New York -- unqualified, no resume, no experience -- you know, who went on to wear high heels and more make-up than your mommy. But, this is showing everything -- you know, the good times, the bad times. And yeah, how certain members succumbed to drugs and alcohol and, you know, the cliche of cliches. Because it's difficult to think of anybody's journey that isn't fraught as they say."
Original members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss were asked to participate, but both declined after being told they would have no say on the final edit of their interviews.
Both apparently feared the truth wouldn't be told as the final edits. According to a source (close to Criss) Simmons and Paul Stanley want to "control the narrative."
Simmons talked about Frehley and Criss not participating in the making of the documentary:
"Yes, they're part of it, but there was enough unreleased footage and stuff like that of both Ace and Peter and we think we owed it to the fans and to them to at least make their presence known. I don't know why Ace and Peter didn't want to appear in it because we're on good terms. You know, everything's fine. So, we literally had nothing to do with the edit or what else or who else was gonna be on it, and we thought that was the fairest thing to do so that you got kind of an unadulterated look
